There are over 40,000,000 domain names already registered, so you may be finding it very difficult to come up with a good domain name that you are happy with.

Here's some practical advice on finding the right domain name...

Keep It Short

No matter what you choose make sure it is short and easily recognizable. This is the name people will find you and come to know you by. Preferably you want a one word name or a description name that will stick in peoples memory. Think of all the great sites you know. Google.com Yahoo.com Amazon.com MSN.com. Short, catchy names which are easy to remember.
Try to keep it below eight characters, if possible.

A Good Domain Name

Is easy to convey and easy to remember! The most basic (yet often overlooked) web traffic building campaign should include promoting your web address through every means you already have in place for reaching your prospects and customers, so it should be easily conveyed in any format, printed or otherwise (on your stationery, in your catalog, on your product packaging, in your voice mail messages, in your signature file at the end of your email messages, etc.).

Your website domain should be easy to remember for others to spread the word about. It should not be easily misspelled or confusing - Prospective visitors won't always have your web address spelled out in front of them. They may try to visit your site from memory. If they misspell or otherwise confuse your domain name, they won't be able to access your site. They might even end up accessing a competing domain!
Simplicity is very important. Otherwise you'll lose traffic.

Avoid Trademarked Names

The reason for this is clear. The companies who own the trademark will simply call their lawyers.

Chitika Optimization Tips

1. Chitika Forums and Moderators. If you have any questions do not hesitate to post questions at the Chitika forum. Give them a few hours to a day and they will have the answer. Ryan is a very patient and enthusiastic moderator who loves gadget sites.

2. Most Successful Websites. The most successful with Chitika are about products and product reviews.

3. Best Pages to Optimize. Spend the most time optimizing the pages that get the most traffic.

4. Best Chitika Ad Position. The best placement for Chitika ads is below the page main content/ blog post and above the user comments. This is a logical place for the ad. Once the user finishes reading the item content or blog post they can then click on the ad to buy or learn more.

5. Optimizing the Bottom of the Page. A great area to place Chitika Ads is the bottom of the page. If a visitor gets to the bottom of the page and they have not found what they are looking for then the Chitika ad may be just the ticket. If you place ads at the bottom, the optimal arrangement is an eMiniMall then directly below that place an RPU unit. Most clicks will be on the eMiniMall but just in case the eMiniMall is not what the user was looking for then one of the related products may catch their eye, giving you a second chance for a Chitika Ad click.

6. Do Not Use Banner Ads. The banner ads are dead. The average user never clicks on the banner ads at the top of the page. You will have better results if you remove the ad from the top banner position, run the ad elsewhere and improve the look of the page.

You can try Plus, the scroll bar is on the right, so you're looking over there anyway..." Additionally, if you are going to use a side bar unit keep it above the fold.

8. Blending the ads. This includes matching the background color, font style, font size, and font colors to your page. You want the ad to blend well with the site. The more seamless your page looks, the better the Chitika results will be.

9. How to Advertise on Forums. Traditionally forums do not do very well for advertising. The best practice is to put an ad unit just below the first post. This is good spot for your ad and it has a good chance of being read. The tops and bottoms of forum pages are overlooked. This placement seems to be the best for forum pages.

10. Traffic is the Most Important Factor. The most important factor for a successful Chitika campaign is traffic. Without good traffic all of the optimization in the world will not help you.

I am using PTC sites just as an affiliate and the truth is that i haven't clicked any ads yet.

1 . Join blogcatalog.com by giving your real email, name and blog.

2 . When your account get approved, start a new discussion on the topic of any article of your blog/site (better if the article is about blogging) and use the content same as f your blog post. but remember only give half the content of the real blog post!
and put the read more link which links to your blog/site article.

3 . If someone gets interested in your topic, surey they will try to read full article!

How to avoid adsense getting banned

I have seen quite a lot of AdSense publishers posted in different forums stating that their AdSense accounts were banned by Google due to fraudulent clicks. Most of these people claim that they are innocent and have never clicked on their on AdSense ads. So they have no idea why click fraud can occur on their AdSense accounts. The truth is click fraud can happen in several ways and not necessarily caused by the AdSense publisher himself/herself who accidentally clicked on his/her own AdSense.

Below are some of the tips to protect your AdSense account:

1) Do not use autosurf programs to promote your websites that contain AdSense. Autosurf programs can substantially increase your website traffic or hits, AdSense page view and ecpm but people who surf your site only to earn advertising credit or other type of incentives. So the traffic generated from autosurf programs aren't counted as real and thus against AdSense policies.

2) If possible, do not involve in any traffic exchange networks and programs. If you have join one or more programs or networks that can make you a steady AdSense commission, you should start worry about your AdSense account as this could mean that members of the program(s) were clicking each other AdSense ads all the while whether intentionally or unintentionally. As soon as Google detected a group of people were clicking each other AdSense, many of the members AdSense account in the program will be suspended. Also traffic exchange can be another mean to artificially generate tons of unreal website traffic or hits and boost up AdSense page view & ecpm and it is strictly prohibited by Google .

3) Do not join AdSense exchange networks. They are similar to traffic exchange programs except members are participate just for clicking each other AdSense. This should be a guaranteed way to be banned by Google.

4) Read all the Google AdSense policies at http://www.google.com/adsense to see whether you have against any policies and make the necessary modification.

You could spend hours and hours trolling sites like digg.com and del.icio.us for new content - but I prefer sites like popurls.com that aggregate the top stories
from all the social media outlets, in addition to video and traditional news sources.

RSS Readers: If you subscribe to a hundred of your favorite feeds in Google Reader or bloglines.com - then it’s not hard to get post ideas in a jiffy each and every day.
Groups: I haven’t used newsgroups in years, but something that’s still alive are the email based “list” type groups. The major ones are at Google Groups, and Yahoo Groups. Just search for a group with a topic or interest you might like, such as gardening, jokes, crafts, auto repair, etc. Sign up for the group, and once you start getting posts you’ll start getting ideas!

Magazines and Catalogs: I get a lot of post ideas from snail mail believe it or not. I have blogs in topics I have interests in like technology, gadgets, and music. I get catalogs and magazines in the mail like guitar magazines, CompUSA catalogs, and even newspaper ads from Best Buy and Radio Shack. If something catches my eye - I blog about it. I purposely sign up for free catalogs in the same interests as my blogs to have a constant stream of potential ideas. I stack them up at the edge of my desk and go through them whenever I need to.

I am a HUGE procrastinator, and I’m easily distracted and I have really, REALLY bad Attention Deficit Disorder, and I’m a bit Obsessive Compulsive as well. Automating some of the blogging process has really helped me to make sure that I get some work done in an organized fashion each and every day.
Datafeedr: Datafeedr is a both an affiliate service and Wordpress plugin you can purchase to create affiliate stores in Wordpress. I write about this in great detail in my article series “How to Create an Affiliate Store in Wordpress“. One of the features I love in datafeedr is “product dripping”. When you create an affiliate store with hundreds of products you an create posts automatically each day and have them auto-publish or “drip” to the homepage. This forces me to go back each day and re-write the dripped posts with better titles and some original content every day - and is a great way to jumpstart blog posting. Write Multiple Posts and Schedule Days in Advance: Not a day goes by that I don’t get some sort of blog post idea. Once you get in the habit of writing these down, you’ll also start writing draft posts days ahead. This can be as simple as just writing a title and a sentence or two and saving the post as a draft, or actually writing multiple posts (alone or in a series) days ahead and scheduling them to post automatically in the future. The new scheduling feature of Wordpress is awesome!

Automatically Schedule and Reuse Old Posts: I’ve written about this before, but the Scheduled Post Plugin by Dagon Design is one of my favorites! Basically it takes the oldest post in your blog and changes the timestamp to today and rotates it to the top spot on your homepage! On my blogs where I have hundreds of posts (especially the ones I don’t write a lot for anymore) - I rotate the posts and recycle them. This also forces me to check them out on a daily basis and make sure that they aren’t outdated and don’t need rewriting. This works especially well on sites that have content like jokes, recipes, or content that never really gets old. It also gives me a second chance to look them over and make sure there isn’t a new or better way to re-monetize them. This helps me to reuse all my old content AND keep the old posts fresh, clean - AND making money!

There's no doubt about it: 2009 is the year Twitter broke. But what's the point of microblogging and how can it help your business?

You know something’s hit the mainstream when Phillip Schofield mentions it on This Morning. But Twitter’s apparent overnight success took the best part of three years.

A prototype of the microblogging and social networking tool was built in two weeks in March 2006 and was launched publicly that August. A programmer called Jack Dorsey came up with the idea when he was writing software that provided realtime status updates for taxi companies. Twitter eventually became a company in May 2007. It’s estimated that over 1.78 million people are now signed up to the service, compared to just 100,000 a year ago. The company last year turned down a $500 million buyout offer from Facebook.

Its genius is in its simplicity. Users are able to publish messages of 140 characters or less via the web or mobile phones. Collectively, these form a microblog, such at this one from Zeta. Messages - or ‘tweets’ - are read by ‘followers’, who subscribe to your posts and have them delivered to their own Twitter homepage.

The result is a stream of updates on everything from what someone’s doing for lunch to the fact that they’ve just been elected US president.

Twitter may be the best-known microblogging tool but it’s far from being the only one. Facebook’s status updates and wall posts make unwitting microbloggers out of its users. Its recent redesign was a direct response to the growth of Twitter.

Tumblelogs such as tumblr and Soup extend the short-form format to include multimedia content. YonklyJaiku offers an open source take on the genre. Plurk provides a quirky, timeline-based aesthetic. And Yammer, which won last year’s TechCrunch50, is specifically designed to provide an internal microblogging tool for businesses.

With email becoming an increasing burden on people’s time, microblogging offers a compelling business communication solution. “Web 2.0 evangelists… say it can facilitate an open-ended corporate culture that values transparency, collaboration and innovation,” says Forbes.com. “Most important, it can be an effective way to build a customer-centric organisation that not only communicates authentically but also listens to customers and learns from that interaction.”

A tool such as Twitter is ideal for following news on a specific topic or for asking questions of your peers. Meanwhile, being able to update your status on the move benefits employees who need to keep in regular contact with one another: a single text can generate an update that is immediately fed to an entire group of co-workers. With the wealth of access points that microblogs offer - from Firefox add-ons to iPhone applications - it’s an elegant way to keep people connected, irrespective or time zones or technology.

The business-focused Yammer allows companies to host the software themselves but this is the exception, not the rule. Most microblogging services live in the cloud, with all the benefits - and problems - that entails. Twitter, for instance, has grown so rapidly that its servers frequently keel over, resulting in the familiar Fail Whale screen.

It’s also worth considering that microblogging is, essentially, an extremely accessible form of publishing and that your posts can appear in Google search results and across the web. Notice I said "there is a chance...". Go visit Weblogs.com and take a look at the time that the first post was submitted, and the time of the last one was submitted. If you're lucky, there are about 5 minutes between the two of them.

Which means you're post will be listed for 5 minutes, and then it'll drop off the bottom of the list.

That's not long for the search engines to find your link, is it?

So how can you improve the odds?

Simple - submit to more sites like Weblogs.com. There are dozens (at the time I write this, about 50-60) well-known sites like Weblogs.com that list blog entries submitted to them.

50-60. And yet Blogger only submits to one of them.

So how can you submit your blog URL to the other 50-69 sites?

Simple. Each time you update your blog, visit http://www.pingoat.com or http://www.pingomatic.com, and enter the name and URL of your blog in the form. Then select the sites that you want to be informed of your update. Pingoat and Pingomatic will then contact those sites on your behalf (and for free) to let them know about your updates.

That's it.

Start doing that on a regular basis, and you'll start to see more traffic to your blog.

This is yet another topic that deserves a book to be written on it. The problem is that I can not recommend a book. In fact, this industry changes so quickly as Google tweaks their algorithm it is difficult to determine what the most important factors are. However, I will try to point out those that very few people will dispute as the big ones. Others are there just for your benefit to be aware of.

First off, there are two major categories in SEO. There is on-site SEO and off-site SEO. Another component of the overall environment is user behaviours. There are similarities and differences between user behaviours based on the search engine they primarily use. Each search engine has a distinct base of users but users of all search engines do share common habits. The way they look at search results is fairly common across all engines for instance. The results pages of Google, MSN and Yahoo all look vaguely similar. While they each might use different colour schemes, the positioning of paid and organic results is almost exactly alike from one engine to another. Since search is primarily a text based medium, search engine users read results as one might read a commercial magazine or newspaper. They tend to skip the obvious advertising and focus on the content, in this case the organic listings. We know this because of the exhaustive Eye Tracking Study conducted by Gord Hotchkiss of Enquiro.

The Eye Tracking study shows how search users work through information on a search engine results page and is the original source of the " Golden Triangle " theory held by many search marketers. The golden triangle is a reference to the area of the search results page seen most frequently by search engine users. Understanding Gord's findings is key to having a good grasp on how search users will perceive a clients' site when they see it appear on the results page.

The next level of external information of interest in relation to a specific campaign is easier to manage as it only covers the business or service sector the client comes from. When planning a search marketing campaign for the hypothetical Blue Widget Software Company from Walla Walla Washington , we need to know what the competitive environment is like. Knowing that Blue Widgets are one of the most popular hypothetical products to market, we expect the competition to be rather challenging. For SEOs and SEMs, competitive research is extremely important. The goal is to get first page listings at the major search engines for your clients and to prepare a paid-advertising campaign that provides a good return for their marketing money.

The first thing we do is go to Google, Yahoo, MSN and Ask Jeeves to find out how many other websites relating to the keyword phrase Blue Widgets appear in the four major indexes. Happily, we find that Google only lists about 336,000 sites associated with the phrase "Blue Widgets". Yahoo returns 427,000 results; Ask Jeeves shows 123,900 and MSN shows only 54,280. It shouldn't be too difficult to get a top ten with so few competitors.

But is a Top10 ranking under the keyword phrase "Blue Widgets" really the best target for our client's money? Once we start optimizing for specific keyword phrase targets, we have committed company time and client money towards a goal. We had best be sure that goal is the most effective for the client. To do this, we check a couple of simple sources. The first is the Overture Keyword Suggestion tool (OKS), now conveniently housed at Yahoo. The OKS offers a glimpse at how many searches were conducted for a specific keyword phrase on their network in the previous month by providing a list of related keyword searches. The next is the WordTracker tool, which shows us the relative popularity of general keywords and suggests more specific ones based on the number of times search engine users entered the words or phrases.

A search for Blue Widgets on the OKS shows that nobody used that phrase last month though 3330 searches did look for information on widgets. Similar results were found with a list generated by WordTracker. This steers us back to the client site to look for other keyword targets. Being the wise optimizers we are, we know that Widgets are mini-applications for the Mac OS so our search hypothetically moved to Mac related keywords and phrases and, of course, struck a virtual mother lode of keyword choices.

After identifying the strongest keyword targets, we become curious who the Top5 competitors are, and what they are doing to be there. This range of inquiry will move us from sector-specific to client site-specific research.

There are several factors influencing the organic placement of sites but they can be placed in four basic categories, Titles, tags, text and links. In order to perform a good competitive analysis, as well as to get a handle on what we'll need to do on our client's site, we look at several elements in these four basic categories. Each search engine takes information from these categories though each treats that information slightly differently.

We are always curious to find the average number of times competitors use keywords on their documents or phrase links with keyword laced anchor text. This helps us decide how to write competitive copy for our clients.

Our greatest interest for both client and competitors is the number of incoming links and the quality of those links. To check links, we use a number of tools but the most realistic view can be gained from the search engines themselves. To find out how many links (and which links) Google sees pointed to a website, go to Google and type link: www.domainname.com into the search box. The number that appears near the top right hand corner of the monitor tells you the number of links Google recognizes. A quick and often random scan of those links can tell you how relevant they are.

One stat we are NOT particularly interested in is the PageRank score as shown by the Google Toolbar. While we have conditioned ourselves to read most algorithm related announcements from Google with extreme skepticism, we do believe them when they say that the PageRank score on the Google Toolbar is for entertainment rather than informative purposes only. It is amazing that some SEOs are still interested in PageRank and even more amazing that some have established continuing businesses based on selling links from high PR sites. (For those of you involved with an SEO selling links from High PR sites, take a few minutes to ask your current SEO to explain the relevance of PageRank and then phone a few others at random to see what they say. You might be unpleasantly surprised.)

Stats and provable facts are cool. Compiling them is hard work but once they are recorded, they provide an invaluable information resource that can grow as the campaign matures. Once an SEO starts keeping hard stats on the overall search environment and client sectors within the search environment, their own professional resource libraries expand quickly. At this stage of the search-marketing sector's growth, SEOs and SEMs are consultative advisors as much as they are hands-on technicians. There is so much talk out there about what the ‘perfect’ web page looks like. In this article we give you tips on what we consider perfectly optimized as well as tips on helping turn the page into a great conversion tool.

Step one – Know who you are targeting
As with any marketing campaign the first step in optimizing ANY web page is to know your target audience. Is your site B2B (business to business) or B2C (business to consumer). This is important because this not only affects the tone of your site, but also the keywords you chose.

It is imperative that you nail who your target is before you do anything else because if you don’t it doesn’t matter how big your site is, or how many pages you have. If you don’t write to the right crowd you aren’t going to get too much business.

The best thing is to write down who you think the target is. Be as detailed as possible. For example, your target may be a 30-45 year old female, in middle management, who drives a mini-van and takes her 3 kids to school before she goes to work. She makes $45,000 per year and has a bachelors degree in finance. This is the type of detail you need. You should be able to picture this person in your mind. Not just the abstract idea of her, but a physical look as well. the better you can picture them in your mind the more successful you will be.

Once you know who you target is the next step is choosing keywords.

Step two – Choosing the right keywords

This may be the most difficult part of your journey, especially if you don’t fit the target profile. That is, picking the keywords they will use to find your site.

You can start by using free tools like Yahoo!s keyword suggestion tool. It gives you a good place to start picking keywords.

Start with a phrase you know your site is about (i.e. if you sell widgets, then simply put “widgets” in the search box). The tool will then not only spit out other related words, but also the search volumes associated with each for the previous month.

A word of caution however: Sometimes, depending on when you use the tool, the search volumes are from a couple months ago. So if your product is seasonal based, the numbers may actually be lower or higher than represented.

Don’t be afraid to get a few hundred words to start. Remember, right now you are just gathering ideas – phrases that could drive traffic to your site. They aren’t all necessarily being used by your target customer.

You can also go to Google’s Adwords site and perform the above steps. Start with a phrase or two which describe your site or product and use Google’s suggestion tool to help expand your list.

At this point you want as many phrases on your list as possible. Don’t worry, you will cull the list pretty quickly.

Once you have a huge list of words, the next place to go is a site like Wordtracker, which has a keyword analysis tool. This tool can be used for a one time fee, or if it’s something you might want to return to you can purchase a subscription. It is a fairly simple tool to use and will give you a good idea of just how likely your site will be able to compete for a phrase.

A warning about Wordtracker: The software uses search volumes from some fairly minor sites such as Dogpile, so the estimates could be a little skewed. But again, unless you deal with an SEO firm that has their own proprietary software, this is about your best alternative.

Also remember as you are culling your words, don’t just focus on the competitive factors. These won’t account for your target audience. Therefore you need to have that picture in your mind of the target as you are selecting phrases that they might use. If you are unsure, you could always as for help from friends and family that fit the target profile.

A good rule of thumb would be to chose about one phrase per page. That doesn’t mean that you will only have one page per phrase, but it gives you a good target. So if your site is 300 pages, consider having a list of 300 phrases.

Step 3 – Write your pages

Now that you have your keywords its time to write, or re-write, your content to make them more appealing to the target audience, inserting the key phrases you’ve selected whenever possible.

Keep in mind that you don’t want to over do it. Also now is a good time to ensure you have proper keyword density’s and page length.

I recommend pages that are 400-500 words long. If they are a little longer or shorter that is fine, however if they are approaching 1000 words or more you should split them up, trying to hit that 400-500 word limit.

On this 400-500 word page you should have 2 or 3 occurrences of a key phrase, and you want to limit the key phrases used to 2 or 3. In other words you could have between 4 and 9 occurrences of all your key phrases per page. This should provide you with optimal keyword density.

Above all, make sure the pages are readable. Don’t optimize for optimization’s sake. If only one key phrase applies to the page, then only use one.

Step 4 – Optimize your Pages

This can be done in conjunction with the writing. In fact it should be done at then to save time. I purposely made this a separate step so that I could outline the finer points of optimization.

Provided that you are following the guidelines found in step 3, your pages should already have good keyword density, now is the time to improve that optimization by adding optimized meta tags and if appropriate, some image alt tags.

First is to write the meta description tag. While many engines will index thousands of characters in your description, I recommend no more than a couple hundred characters. That is about how long this paragraph is.

The meta description should be a readable sentence or two with the same keywords that you wrote the page for. In other words, the same phrases should appear in the meta description as the body. They should also appear as near to the front of the tag as possible however don’t sacrifice readability for this. If the tag doesn’t make sense with them at the front, then reorganize until they do make sense. Be sure to use proper punctuation as well.

Also preferred but not mandatory is a meta keywords tag. While none of the major engines use this tag, other smaller ones, and some specialty engines do use the meta keywords tag. If your target uses one of these engines then it makes sense to have that tag in place.

Also, with the keywords tag there is a lot of debate over using commas or not. Personally I do not use commas. I just combine the phrases and remove duplicate words. For example, if the page is about blue widgets, yellow widgets and red widgets then the keywords tag could be: “blue yellow red widgets.”

Common sense should be used when deciding if you will use image alt tags as well. If your keywords match the image and you can make a compelling image description, then do it. Otherwise don’t.

Step 5 – Write a compelling title tag

I purposely left this as a separate step from meta tags because this is the most important part of your optimization program. Again, it can be done at the same time as the previous two steps, but it’s importance can not be over-emphasized.

This is because the title tag is the tag which is displayed in the SERP (Search Engine Results Page). It is the link that people click on, and also the tag which is generally read by the visitor before they decide to visit.

Therefore, if your title tag isn’t compelling, it doesn’t matter how well optimized your page is, it may not get that click.

For this step, you need to look at your competition to determine what they are doing. Perform a search to see what is compelling about their listing? Is there one that stands out? If so what are they doing? For example, if on every other site the keyword is the first phrase on the title, then consider moving your keyword in to the second or third phrase.

This is because, as you will notice, engines like Google bold the search term in the title and snippets or description. One way to make your title stand out is to have the term in a different position than the competition. That way the bolding stands out like this:

Notice how the third one stands out from the rest?

I can not emphasize enough how important that title tag is. As I said, it is the “hook” to get visitors to your site. If the title is ineffective, then it won’t get clicked which means you don’t get the opportunity to woo that client.

Summary

As you can see, optimizing a page has less to do with optimal keyword density and more to do with knowing who it is that will be using that page.

If you don’t know who your target audience is you will never be able to properly optimize your pages. Sure you can optimize it for whatever keywords you choose, but if they aren’t the words that your customer will search for, what’s the point?

In the end, the more you know who your customer is, the better you will be in all your online ventures, from introduction of your product or service, to closing the sale. It is up to you to cater to them, and not force them into a more generic mold. This is because todays web searchers are much more savvy and willing to browse more if a site doesn’t appeal to them.

These ads will mostly be related to the topic of that website and/or webpage and because you are visiting that page you probably have an interest in the topic and will therefore often find the ads shown to be relevant and interesting to you.

These ads are called "AdSense" and the owner of the website will get a small part of the money that Google is making from the publishers that is running the ads. The website owner is making money from selling part of the space on their website to publishers wanting their ads to be shown to the people visiting that website.

As a website owner wanting to show AdSense ads there are especially three things that will boost your revenue significantly and if you feel like you are not making the amount of money that you would assume your site could be making then be sure to check to see whether you are following these three golden rules first.

Rule number 1: Placement
It is extremely important that you ads are placed in a prominent place on your website. If you are placing them where people are not looking they are not going to click the ads and you will not be making any money.

The AdSense ads that Google is showing on your site are solely determined but Google's software. It will look at the title of your page/post and the text that you have written on that page. This means that if you write a text about a lot of different topics from keeping your garden free of weeds, over how to fix your car and finally ending up how to make more money on your job, the software will have a very difficult time figuring out what your text is really about and it will therefore most likely display ads that are not necessarily relevant to your visitors.

If you instead try to keep each post/page/article within a very narrow topic and use as many different words that you can come up with that are common within that topic the software will have a lot less trouble figuring out what your article is about and will therefore display ads that are laser targeted to that specific topic. This also means that the people reading what you have written (it is assumed that they are reading it because they have an interest) will be presented with ads that are a lot more relevant to them and they are therefore very likely to click on them to see what they are about. That means that you'll be making more money!!

Bonus rule
Whether you believe the three rules above or not you definitely should test to see whether you are actually leaving money on the street. The golden rule (or what I call the Bonus rule) is to always test, test and test again. It is not certain that blue links or top-left ad placements will be the best performing solution for your particular website but if you don't test you'll never know and you will very likely be leaving money on the table.

Where you have the ad located on your web page affects how often users will click on it. Ads should be as close to the top and the middle as possible. Internet users look to the center of the page to find information. If your ad is placed down the sides, it will often be overlooked. Blue is considered by many to be sleep inducing, and is the worst choice if you are interested in a call to action. Sometimes if the effect you want is calming, blue can be integrated effectively. Sometimes the article would require a mere five minutes to touch it up and make it nearly perfect, or sometimes it would simply not be ready for publishing yet. Either way, you don’t want to waste a great post idea on an article that no one will ever read or appreciate. If you implement the following tips hopefully you will see a great improvement in your writing and your site’s content from the first word to the last.

1. Come up with an eye-catching title.

It’s a proven fact that titles that are easy to read, enthusiastic, and even those that contain numbers do better than those that don’t. The title of your article should make the reader excited and should make them want to sit and read each word you’ve got to say. Which title is better: “10 Tips to Self Satisfaction and a Happier Life” or “Advice for Being More Happy”? The first one, of course! If your title is bland, how do you expect visitors to continue on to the actual content?

2. Make sure your post is easy to read.

Sometimes it’s all about the visuals. Most of the time online readers like to scan articles instead of spending two hours on them. Create titles within your post and highlight them with bold html. If your post can be written as a list instead, scrap the paragraphs and use numbers. The quicker and easier your article is to read, the better.

3. Reread your article and check for all errors.

No matter how great of a writer you are, you’re always going to mess up sometimes. Spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, and botched up sentences will sometimes just slip through. Don’t worry, it happens to the best of us! That’s why the spell check was invented. If you use Firefox you have a built-in spell check, and if you use the Wordpress platform there is one. If you’re writing your articles using a program such as Word, then you’ll have a spell check there too. Almost everywhere has spell check!

9. Get your post where it’s supposed to be at the right time.

Tag your post properly and make sure it’s placed in the correct categories so it can easily be located on your blog. Then make sure you are publishing your post at an appropriate time. If you’re using the Wordpress platform, understand that timestamp, just like spell check, is your best friend. What is Margin Trading

Almost all stock brokers offer margin trading, which is essentially borrowing money from them to purchase more stocks. Many investors do not understand margin trading or whether or not it is good for them.

Deciding whether or not to borrow on margin is a business decision like any other. When you borrow on margin, you are borrowing money to buy stocks, using the stocks you currently own as collateral. If you think the stocks you will buy will significantly outperform the margin rate you pay, then borrowing on margin may be good for you.

For example, let’s say you have a very large asset base, let’s call it $10 million. You believe the market is incredibly oversold, as it was a couple weeks ago. You want to borrow money to invest in the market. You decide to borrow $2 million, paying 5% interest. You believe that you can make 15-25% on the money you borrow, well above the interest rate you are paying. In this case, borrowing the money on margin looks like it will make a good payoff.

As you can see, the three key factors here are the margin rate you are paying, the amount you can make off of the money you borrow, and your risk tolerance. The above example, however, is a very optimistic one. Most of the time, for people with average or small asset base, margin rates are very high, generally 8.5% or more and can easily be 10% or more. Furthermore, the market returns about 10% a year on average, so most of the time, borrowing on margin mean taking on a lot of risk for potentially very little reward.

What exactly are the margin risks? Well, besides the fact that you are betting more money, so you can lose more money, you also risk a margin call. Let’s say you have $50k and borrow $50k on margin. The market gets pummeled, and your $100k in total investments ($50k yourself plus $50k you borrowed) drop down to $70k. At this point, there’s a very good chance you’ll receive a margin call. The broker will demand that you sell securities (or put up additional funds) so that you reach a certain level. For example, the federal government requires brokers to have at least a 25% maintenence requirement, though most brokers have a higher number.

Let’s say your broker has a 30% maintenence requirement. Since you borrowed 50k on margin, you will need to maintain an overall balance of about $71k or more before receiving a margin call. If you get a margin call, you will need to put up more money from your bank account or start selling securities.

Let’s say, in the $50k +$50k example that you’re somehow forced to sell all of your secuirites after your balance dropped to $50k. Now, all you have is $20k minus what you paid in margin interest. Even though the market only dropped down by about 30%, you ended up losing over 60% of your funds since you leveraged yourself.

As you can see, margin trading involves a lot of risk. It should only be done by expert investors who know what they are doing and can get access to a decent margin rate. For average investors, margin trading is generally a bad idea.

While this website is geared towards choosing stocks, in this article, I’m going to share a few tips on how to choose a good mutual fund.

What exactly is a good mutual fund. I’d define one as a mutual fund that outperforms its peers over a significant period of time. For example, a mutual fund that tends to invest broadly in large cap stocks is a good mutual fund if it beats the S&P 500. A good small cap fund would be one that consistently beats the Russell 2000 index. Remember, its relative performance, not absolute performance, that is the method to judge a mutual fund.

Finding a good mutual fund is the same as finding a good stock in the sense that it takes research and patience. Here are some things to look for when researching a good mutual fund:

1. Keep the fees low. Any fees you pay is less money in your pocket. Any good mutual fund should have a maintenence fee of 1.5% or less, 1% or less is preferable. Under no circumstances should you pay a load (upfront fee) to invest in a mutual fund.

2. Check out the asset base. Often, mutual funds become so bloated with investors money that they cannot invest as effectively. It is much easier for a fund to invest $1 billion in assets than $100 billion. As the fund gets larger, it has to invest in more and more stocks, and take larger positions in companies (which will often move the price of the stock).

3. Remember the sector the fund invests in. Just because the fund had a hot year last year doesn’t necessarily mean its a good fund to invest in. The sector that the fund focuses on may have just happened to have done well, so the fund got lucky.

4. Check out the fund manager. At the heart of mutual fund investing is the fund’s manager. This is the man or woman you are trusting with your money and believe will make the best investment decisions for you.

Options: While advanced investors may be able to successfully use options to hedge investments or as leverage, options are a suckers game for beginning investors. The appeal of options is that the investor can quickly turn a small amount of money into a large amount of money. However, most of the time, the investor just loses most of or his entire investment if he doesn’t know what he is doing. When you are buying or selling a stock option, you are betting against someone else (whoever is on the other side of the trade). Most likely, this is someone with a lot more information and experience than you, so options are generally best avoided.

Mutual Funds That Charge Loads: Some stock brokers or bankers will try to get you into a mutual fund that charges a load (an upfront fee). This fee generally is just used as an advertising expense; basically, it just goes towards someone else’s commission. These loads can be very hefty, often 5% of your initial investment. There’s little evidence that mutual funds that charge loads do any better than mutual funds that don’t charge loads. The best thing to do is when you do it gradually is to add to say 100 directories to get you started and then every couple of days add to 20 more.

There are a lot of tools on the market for automatic directory submission but the best way is to add these manually because you never know what information a “bot” will use when it adds your site to all of those directories.
